State workers are in the midst of negotiating collective bargaining agreements covering the next two years. Workers have been pushing for contracts that increase wages, but they've been told the state will not spend a “dime” on 2027-2029 contracts. This comes as workloads for our public employees are growing and wages aren't keeping up with cost of living, creating a "perfect storm" for retention just as state services are increasingly needed by Washingtonians.

The Washington Federation of State Employees wants to show our elected officials, higher-ed leaders, and their negotiations teams that they're organized and paying attention to what's happening at the negotiating tables. They're inviting supporters to join them on Monday, August 31st for “Walkout with Washington” demonstrations. Everyone who cares about public workers and wants to protect essential state services is invited to join Monday’s actions.
