Members of the Evergreen Chapter of Public School Employees of Washington SEIU Local 1948 (PSE) have gone on strike after an overwhelming vote in favor of striking last week.
PSE's picket lines will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the week of August 25th at rotating schools throughout the district:
- Tuesday, August 26 – Evergreen High School, the Bus Barn on 28th Street, and Shahala Middle School
- Wednesday, August 27 – Pacific Middle School, Endeavour Elementary, and Marrion Elementary
- Thursday, August 28 – Burton Elementary, Ellsworth Elementary, and Mill Plain Elementary
- Friday, August 29 – The District Office

Evergreen PSE members are also asking our community in Southwest Washington to join them at 4:30 on August 26th at a rally ahead of the Evergreen Public Schools Board meeting. Gather at 4:30 PM at the Evergreen Administrative Service Center (13413 NE LeRoy Haagen Memorial Drive, Vancouver, WA 98684 - click here for a map) then join the Board meeting in the Evergreen Room at 5:30 PM. Can't attend the meeting in person? You can join the meeting over zoom at this link.
PSE members cite low wages, lack of retention language, and unpaid work hours as their core issues. We agree with Evergreen PSE Chapter President Mindy Troffer-Cooper when she says, “Evergreen students deserve stable, supported schools – and that starts with treating classified staff with fairness and dignity."
Please join one of these picket lines (or more than one,) attend the Evergreen Schools Board meeting, and show your support for these working people who keep Evergreen schools running!
