AFSCME Local 307L members are fighting to preserve equity and intellectual freedom at Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries, and they're asking for your help.
At a recent meeting several FVRLibraries trustees stated they would not approve the district’s strategic priorities unless the words equity and equitable access were removed, and they suggested limiting the district’s statement on intellectual freedom.
Our libraries serve diverse populations across multiple counties. The people working at FVRLibraries believe the system must ensure resources are distributed fairly, and that patrons of all ages can access a broad, diverse collection without political interference.
You can make a difference in this fight! Please sign AFSCME 307L's petition urging the Board of Trustees to retain the equity language in the system's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities, AND uphold a full and uncompromised commitment to intellectual freedom. Once you've signed the petition, please share it on Facebook, Blue Sky or Twitter / X.
Not on social media? You can simply copy and paste this link to send it by email, SMS (whatever works best for you:) https://www.fightforthefirst.org/petitions/protect-equity-and-intellectual-freedom-at-fvrlibraries
Then, join AFSCME 307L members as they present the petition to the Trustees at the next FVRLibraries Board of Trustees meeting at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 26th (please arrive at 5:00 PM if you'd like to sign up to make a public comment) at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C Street, Vancouver, WA 98660 (click here for a map.)
Please stand with the people who keep our library system working for EVERYONE in the communities it serves.
