We're happy to hear your union Local is ready to join the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council! 

This letter was designed to inform you and your Local leadership about the steps required to join the CLC, as well as answer most of the questions that you may have. We'd advise reading it - but below are some summary points:

The SW Washington Central Labor Council's jurisdiction includes Clark County, Skamania County, and Klickitat County west of the 121st meridian.

Membership in the CLC is open to Locals of unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO operating within our jurisdiction.  

We want to bring together the entire family of organized Labor, so membership in the CLC is also open to Locals of non-AFL-CIO-affiliated unions operating within our jurisdiction who sign a Solidarity Charter,  

The amount of Per Capita fees your Local will pay to the CLC are derived from how many members you have that work within our area.  Affiliated Locals pay a monthly Per Capita fee of thirty-four cents ($0.34) on all members regularly employed within our jurisdiction.  One month's Per Capita fees is required at the time of affiliation.  Use this worksheet to calculate the per capitas your Local will owe when you afiliate.

(Note: Per Capita fees can be paid monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually.  Contact the CLC's Secretary - Treasurer to discuss payment arrangements.)

The number of CLC Delegates representing your Local is also derived from how many members you have that work in our area.  Affiliated Locals in good standing (that is, no more than four months in arrears unless special arrangements are made) are entitled to representation based on the following formula:

50 members or less:      2 delegates

51-100 members:          3 delegates

101-200 members:        4 delegates

201-400 members:        5 delegates

401-700 members:        6 delegates

701-1100 members:      7 delegates

One additional delegate is allocated for each additional 500 members (or major fractions beyond 1100 members.)

So, are you ready to join the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council?  Simply send our Secretary/Treasurer a letter on your union's letterhead signed by either your President, Vice President or equivalent officer stating with the following information:

1. A statement that your Union wants to affiliate with the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council, and;
    
2. The number of members that you will be paying Per Capita on, and;
    
3. The names, address, phone number(s), and email address of your delegates and;
    
4. A check made out to the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council in the amount of your first months per capita payment.

Once the Council has these items, we will be able to officially affiliate with your union Local and get to work building a better life for working families in our region.
