Dear Executive Board, Delegates and Affiliates, my labor family,
How do I write one of the hardest letters I have ever had to write? I guess I do it as I do most things, from the heart. Most of you know I am running for the Washington State Labor Council Secretary – Treasurer position and when I am elected would take office In January 2023. It is with great sadness to say that my time as your President of the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council has come to an end. I have been a volunteer president of this council for over 14 years, and it has been the most fulfilling position I have ever had. We discovered an amazing new labor family that has bonded together like no other CLC in the state. (And I have worked with all of them) Our CLC is special and that is due to the affiliates and the delegates that belong, participate, and give life to this council. This is some of the inspiration that drove me to run for the WSLC position. I am hoping that we can duplicate what we have done here in Southwest all over the state of Washington to give us worker power statewide! We all know that our unions and union organizations are only as good as WE make them. WE ARE THE UNIONS!
To make it official, I will be stepping down as your President at the November 2022 meeting with the swearing in of the new President at the December 2022 meeting. I am hoping that one of our amazing union members, delegates, leaders will step up to take on the position. All I can say is that it is so rewarding you will not regret it.
You will be receiving official correspondence on this special election from Kevin Lux, Secretary-Treasurer of the Southwest Washington CLC, but I wanted to make sure that I sent a personal note out. I look forward to working with you all in the future and remember we are never alone in the labor movement if we stick together in Solidarity.
In Solidarity and Forever Grateful,
Shannon
